A Flexible ad format is a responsive non-expanding ad unit that will adapt to all devices and screen resolutions. Flexible ads are based on IABs new standard ad unit portfolio.
The ad can have different sizes within it’s defined size range, but must always maintain its aspect ratio. (E.g. a 6:1 ad may be bigger on an iPhone 6 Plus and smaller on an iPhone 5, but it’s width and height will always remain in the ratio of 6:1).
Commonly used ad sizes like the 728x90 would be replaced by a flexible aspect ratio based on ad size such as 6:1 or 4:1. A 300x250 could be replaced with a 1:1, or a 300x600 could be replaced by a 1:2. Full-screen sizes based on screen aspect ratios could be 16:9 (horizontal), 9:16 (vertical), etc.
*You can still set up a Banner Ad Format and check off “responsive screen” under General Properties in the Builder if you want to create a responsive banner based on pixels.
This article will walk you through creating a flexible unit using Adventive’s Flexible ad template. A single screen canvas will display after you create your new file.
Flexible Ad Unit
In the Builder, Create a New File, type in File Name, and select Flexible from the dropdown.
Select ad dimensions (ratio) or click custom to enter your own.
Backup Image – Any image asset that matches the dimensions you’ve entered will be displayed in the dropdown list. You can select one here or add a backup in the builder under general properties in the “Fallback Image” field. This Backup Image will be displayed if the user’s browser is out of date and cannot support HTML5.
Click URL – The default click URL. The click URL is automatically applied to any area of the ad unit without an associated click or event action (i.e. buttons, hitboxes, expand actions etc.). Users that click on the fallback image will also be directed to this URL.
Setting Up Your Canvas
A blank canvas will load onto the screen. This is where you'll place your ad content.
Ad Properties (In the Properties panel to the right of the Builder)
Width and Height
The Width and Height of your canvas will be the aspect ratios you choose from the Create New File template. You can change these at any time.
Max Width - the max width in pixels of the ad unit which you can change. The height of the ad unit will be determined by the max width and aspect ratio.
Opacity of the ad canvas
UPDATE: Sticky Ad. You can find sticky ad settings in the General Ad Properties panel on the right of the builder. If you do not have this option, the ad format you’ve selected cannot be made sticky. Sticky ads stick to the top of the page instead of scrolling off screen. See article on Sticky Ad for settings.

Click to change or update the default click URL
UPDATE: You can now choose to have the Default Url open in a “New Tab” or the “Same Tab” by clicking on the dropdown arrow next to the “Open In” field in General Properties:
Click to add or update your fallback image. This will open your assets, displaying only images that are identically sized to the initial load screen dimensions of your ad unit.
Click on the Asset icon and select or upload your asset.
Example of 8:1 Flexible Ad unit:
Save the ad.
Go to the Preview icon to view the ad - drag browser in to see the re-sizing of the unit.
